Great uproar caused the news of the beheading of 7 people who were buried in the pillars of the "White Bridge". It was believed that it was necessary to do this for the bridge to resist the constant flooding of the "yellow river" which had already destroyed six more bridges on previous occasions.

Do you know the history of the White Bridge?
In the year 1775 the White Bridge is mentioned for the first time in the city of San Cristóbal de las Casas, this was essential to help create better communication routes for the growth of the city. It is said that there were 6 bridges before the Puente Blanco, these were damaged by the strong floods that affected the region between 1652 and 1868. A period in which there were five major floods in this city, the most serious flood being that of the year 1864 .

General Miguel Utrilla, at that time president of our city, ordered the construction of the current Puente Blanco to be carried out, giving the order to begin the work on March 14, 1865 by the bricklayer Basilio Ruiz, who concluded the work in May. from 1866. According to the inscription that is preserved in one of the pillars, we know that the inauguration ceremony was held on May 5, 1866, naming this work as Puente Utrilla.
