The Stone of Huixtla.

Body

In the past, sorcerers from Chiapa de Corzo used to go to Guatemala in search of magical objects: miraculous herbs, magical stones, and precious metals. On one occasion, one of them wanted to take a metal bell, which was rumored to have been haunted. Since the object was very heavy, he needed help to move it to Chiapas.

In that he commissioned Juan No, the most powerful man in the town, to help him take her to Chapa de Corzo, warning him that under no circumstances should she touch the ground. Otherwise it would turn to stone.

Juan accepted and they went carrying the bell from Tapachula to the jungle of Huixtla. However, Juan felt more and more tired of moving that object. The sorcerer encouraged him and told him that it was less and less to reach his destination. However, the boy continued to insist that the time had come to take a break.

Finally, the sorcerer allowed him to rest for a while, as long as the bell did not touch the floor. Juan placed it on his back and leaned against some stones to sleep better.

After a while, the witcher also fell asleep.

The next morning, they awoke to find to their horror that the bell had slipped to the ground. Now it was a huge stone, which Juan could not lift again no matter how hard he made it.

Furious, the witcher cursed him, turning him into stone and condemning him to guard the bell for the rest of eternity. Since then, when passing by the place where the petrified bell lies, footsteps can be heard around it, as if some invisible presence was stalking it.
