San Ramon

El parque de San Ramon
The San Ramón neighborhood was formed by the donation of land made by Don Ramón Larrainzar in 1849, when he was interim governor of the State of Chiapas, due to pressure from the impoverished inhabitants of the city, mainly from the La Merced neighborhood, and due to rumors of a feared indigenous uprising due to the dispossession they were suffering of their most fertile lands.
The celebration of San Ramón Nonato takes place in the municipality of San Cristóbal de las Casas every August 31. This celebration is very important for the inhabitants of the municipality and is carried out with processions, music and traditional dances.
The Barrio De San Ramón in San Cristóbal has long been famous for its bakeries and sweet shops. Here you will find typical sweets of the region such as typical sweets: chimbo (a honey-flavored dessert between pudding and cake), caramels, gaznates (meringue embedded in a sweet and crunchy shell) and others. You will also find one of the most important pottery workshops in the region, appropriately called the “San Ramón” Workshop, where some of the most beautiful ceramics in the city are made, such as vases, pots and tableware.
