El Arcotete
The arcotete is a natural rock formation located 4 km northwest of San Cristóbal de las Casas, in the state of Chiapas. Its name means "stone arch" and is due to the legend that the French soldier Jean Francoise D' Arcotete took his life when he was rejected by a ponytailed woman with whom he was in love.
This arch is the result of millions of years of erosion by the Fogotic River, which passes beneath it. Its beauty is due to the passage of time, which has revealed impressive caverns in the roof of the arch. Its walls, up to 40 meters high, present whimsical geological formations with stalactites and stalagmites made of calcareous rock that resemble large bones.
El arcotete is an ideal place for lovers of nature and adventure. Here you can practice various activities such as rock climbing, rappelling, mountain biking, photography and caving. In addition, you can enjoy the abundant and varied vegetation that surrounds the arch, as well as the numerous fauna that inhabits the place.
El arcotete is a place that will surprise you with its beauty and history. Don't miss the opportunity to meet him and live a unique and unforgettable experience. I assure you will not regret.
