Founded in 1528 by the Spanish conquistador Diego de Mazariegos, it was the first capital of the state until 1892, when the powers were transferred to Tuxtla Gutiérrez. Since then, San Cristóbal has preserved its colonial charm, its ethnic diversity and its cultural richness, which make it a unique and fascinating tourist destination.

San Cristóbal de las Casas is a Mexican city located in the state of Chiapas, in the Los Altos region.
